Scott Dottino, proprietor of Godfather’s Bar, said the event, held at Godfather’s beachfront branch at the Fiesta Hotel & Spa Saipan, was meant to give funds to the department “because a lot people depend on them and they don’t have enough funds.”

Dottino said Godfather’s initiated the fundraising by approaching the department. He said the bar and restaurant has done other fundraising projects for other groups.

“We’ve done it for the Autism Society, the police department, etc. Every couple of months, we hold this fund raising for organizations that may need funds,” he said. “We go out to them, and offer them to raise the funds.”

During Saturday’s fundraising, Dottino said Godfather’s offered to give a portion of their sales to the fire department.

He said other sponsors, such as Best Sunshine International, Ltd., have also been invited to donate prizes and sponsor the food. “We offer drinks specials, we have a donation box, and we will give a portion of our sales to the department,” he said. “This is open to the public.”

Fire department chief Clyde Norita said he welcomes the fundraising.

“Godfather’s approached us asking if they can do something for the department,” Norita said, adding that the funds will go to an employees’ association within the fire department.

The association donates to a firefighter who maybe in need of monetary assistance, Norita said.
