GMJ/IKKI notched its fifth win in six games to lead Blue Haus (4-1), Pacific Islands Club (4-2), Cholos (3-1), Ferrera Builders (1-4), GMI Market (1-4), and Armatech (0-4) and boost its bid for the outright semis ticket that will be given to the top finisher in their group.

The GMI Market-GMJ/IKKI duel was a close fight in the first three periods with the former even leading twice late in the third before the latter pulled away in the first three minutes and change of the fourth to cruise to victory.

GMJ/IKKI launched a 13-0 run in the first 3:39 of the final canto, turning a slim 65-63 advantage to a 78-63 spread. Five different players teamed up in GMJ/IKKI’s scoring spree in the early goings of the fourth period, while GMI Market was held scoreless for nearly five minutes bridging the third and final frame.

GMI Market managed to take a 63-61 cushion with about a minute left in the third before it went cold at the start of the fourth canto after opting to change players at the beginning of the payoff period. GMI Market started the fourth with Donnel Isip, Treat Kaipat, Ben Petersburg, and Mike Cabanas, relieving Jon and Jesse Santos, Jeff Deleon Guerrero, and Jesse Doseo, while Andrew Palino remained as the team’s quarterback.

Before Jon and Jesse rode the bench, they scored GMI Market’s last 12 points in the fourth and allowed the team to take the driver’s seat from GMJ/IKKI momentarily. The two finally reported back for duty with GMJ/IKKI threatening to pull away going into the last six minutes and spare of the fourth and Jon Santos broke GMI Market’s silence with a putback off his own miss, 65-78.

However, Jon’s basket failed to anchor a GMI Market rally while GMJ/IKKI wisely used the time to protect its lead and hit a few more baskets to seal the deal.
