Global Filipino Diaspora Marianas to be launched Sunday
On Sunday, Sept. 28,2014, the Global Filipino Diaspora Marianas will be launched at the San Antonio Parish Social Hall, San Antonio, Saipan, from 8am to 11am, said Dr. Celia B. Lamkin, organizer and founding chairperson of the Global Filipino Diaspora Marianas for the CNMI and Guam.
Diaspora is defined as the movement to, migration and scattering of any people from their original or ancestral homeland.
Based on the data from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas in 2012, there were more than 10 millions of Filipinos in diaspora, where almost 4 millions are in the United States, followed by Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Canada, among others.
“The mission of the Global Filipino Diaspora Marianas is for Filipinos who have roots and ties in the Philippines and living overseas to have a better lives for ourselves and families and also to contribute to the betterment of the Philippines and the Marianas, the world, through mutual protection and support,” said Lamkin.
The officers of the Global Filipino Diaspora Council are Loida Nicolas Lewis as national chairperson, Rodel Rodis as president, D Lamkin as secretary, and Ted Laguatan, spokesperson and legal counsel.
All members of the CNMI and Guam communities with Filipino blood, whether they are U.S. citizens, green card holders, contract workers, children of overseas Filipino workers, students or dependents of OFWS, among others, are encouraged to attend the launching and forum to learn more of GFDM.
