Girls middle school caging starts Sept. 18

The Public School System Girls Middle School Basketball league will kick off on Sept. 18 at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

The league is open to both private and public schools and games will be played from 4pm to 6:30pm every Wednesday. Eight matches will be held on each playing day with PSS utilizing the north and south courts at the gym.

Participating schools include Chacha Oceanview Middle School, Hopwood Middle School 1 and 2, Mount Carmel School, Agape School, Francisco M. Sablan Middle School, Tanapag Middle School, Dandan Middle School, Grace Christian Academy, and Saipan International School.

The first pair of matches next Wednesday at 4:30pm will have Chacha battling Agape and GCA facing Tanapag. For the second set of games at 5pm, Hopwood 1 will take on MCS, while Hopwood 2 will duel Dandan. In the next two matches at 5:30pm, it will be Mt. Carmel against FMS and Dandan versus SIS. For the last two matches at 6pm, Hopwood 1 will meet Chacha and Tanapag will fight Hopwood 2.

The league will have a single-round robin format in the regular season, which will last until Oct. 16 and results in the preliminaries will be used for seeding.

Each game will be played in two 10-minute halves, running time, and overtime will be three minutes. The playoff round that will take place on Oct. 18 will be a single-elimination affair.

Players must submit parental release forms beforehand, maintain passing grades in the most recent grading period, submit a sports physical, and must not be over 15 years of age within the school year.
