A 4-year-old girl who had been in intensive care after a near drowning at the Pacific Islands Club on Saturday passed away Monday night at the Commonwealth Health Center.
An official of the Department of Public Safety confirmed with the Saipan Tribune yesterday that a CHC doctor pronounced the girl dead at 10:03pm.
The DPS official said an investigation is still ongoing.
Police identified the girl as Nevaeh Shanae Sablan Casil. “Nevaeh” spells “Heaven” backward.
Police quoted Casil’s stepfather as saying that he heard a whistle and ran to a group of people gathering at the pool Saturday afternoon. The stepfather found out that it was his stepdaughter who was being assisted. At least two persons administered CPR and revived the girl.
Medics arrived and transported Casil to CHC where she was then admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for further observation and treatment due to the presence of fluid in her lungs.
As Casil was fighting for her life at the ICU, the family decided to bring the girl to a hospital in the Philippines but paperwork apparently caused the delay.
