A 16-year-old girl was injured when the car she was driving swerved and slammed into a tree along Flame Tree Road near the Francisco C. Ada International Airport yesterday afternoon.

Department of Public Safety police information officer Travis Hurst said the girl suffered minor contusions caused by the safety belt.

Hurst said DPS received a call about a vehicular crash yesterday at 5:26pm along Flame Tree Road.

When a traffic police officer arrived at the scene, he saw a car next to a tree off of the side of the road.

The officer’s investigation showed that the girl was driving too fast for the road conditions, causing her to lose control of the car.

The car drove off the roadway and collided with a tree. Due to the impact, the car’s airbags deployed.

DPS Fire medics checked the girl and transported her to the Commonwealth Health Center.

Travis said the girl had no passenger when the crash happened.
