The Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium has been providing a venue for sporting events and other activities on Saipan for nearly a decade and will continue to open its doors to the community.

This is made possible through the help of Gillette and D&Q, which renewed their commitment to support the facility located at the TSL Sports Complex in Gualo Rai.

“D&Q and Gillette are pleased to be able to continue our support for the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium. We strongly feel that supporting sports in our community is an important part of being a good corporate citizen and trust that our small contribution each year helps the many people that avail of the facility,” said Max Kretzers, resident manager of D&Q Saipan Co., Ltd., which is the distributor of Procter & Gamble’s Gillette products in the region.

Kretzers and D&Q Saipan Ltd. sales manager (Sapan and the Pacific Islands) Marilyn Marron presented the $5,000 donation to Saipan Soccer School recently in support of the facility. The group manages the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

“We are deeply grateful to Gillette and D&Q for their continued support. This assistance will help us keep the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium operational and allow our athletes and other members of the community access to the facility,” SSS director Merlie Tolentino said.

The multipurpose gymnasium, which sustained significant damage from two super typhoons in the last six years, has undergone improvement late last year. New rubberized flooring was installed, while the roofing was also fixed. The facility plays host to several sporting events, particularly those that feature youth athletes, while it once served as temporary shelter for families left homeless in 2018 when Saipan was hammered by Super Typhoon Yutu. The gymnasium is also used for summer camps and training sessions. (PR)
