GetFitCNMI inspires community to become active
In their own way, GetFitCNMI said they are helping the community toward better living.
Joey Tudela of GetFitCNMI spoke at the Rotary Club Saipan’s meeting at the Hyatt Regency Saipan last Tuesday to inspire the club toward an active lifestyle.

“The CNMI, or all of Micronesia, is known for NCDs or non-communicable diseases,” Tudela said.
“We stated GetFitCNMI not thinking of that yet, but now that we’re four years deep into it, we’ve extended our program to help people with these NCDs,” he added.
According to Tudela, they have been partnering with Commonwealth Health Center for their programs and supporting community activities with regards to health and sports.
GetFitCNMI, unlike other gyms on island, offers cross fit training. Tudela believes it is effective and safe not only because of the trainers that are always there during sessions but also because “functional movements” are utilized for workouts.
“We train people to do everyday things in life,” Tudela said, “we just constantly build people up and make them stronger and live life every day.”
Workouts, he said, last from five minutes to 30 minutes.
With Tudela at the meeting was Jamal Sablan, who has multiple epiphyseal dysplasia. He had hip surgeries when he was young but still had difficulty moving. However, because of his workouts at GetFitCNMI, he can function and move more easily.
“Cross fit really changed me. First time I went there I was in pain, but I knew it was worth it. I used to weigh like 195 lbs. now I’m 139. I used to wake up every morning feeling pain in my hips, in my knees,” Sablan said.
“When I joined cross fit, I got better. I could carry heavy loads of stuff,” he added.
He said cross fit is about the quality of training, not the quantity, and that it can change other people as well.
Tudela also made J.J. Tenorio an example of how cross fit training along with a healthy diet plan works. In just a year, this client of Tudela lost more than 100 lbs.
Asked what the Rotary can do for their organization, Tudela said all they have to do is go to the gym.
“Just come in and experience what cross fit is first. Get your feet wet and get to know the community,” Tudela said.
“That’s the biggest thing about cross fit, the community and the people coming in from all walks of life,” he added.
