Get the right info from Consulate caravan tomorrow

The United Filipino Organization is organizing an “information caravan” that will be hosted by the Philippine Consulate General for the benefit of Filipino workers on island.
The information caravan is scheduled tomorrow, Oct. 16, from 2pm to 4pm at the Civic Center in Susupe.
Consul General Medardo Macaraig said that Sunday’s information caravan-the first of a series-is intended “to clarify certain matters,” including issues on immigration, OWWA membership, and other consular services.
“For example, there are a lot of our kababayans [countrymen] who have questions about being able to stay in the CNMI without an employer. We plan to address those inquiries,” Macaraig told Saipan Tribune yesterday.
UFO president Bong Malasarte, for his part, said the information caravan aims to “once and for all” shed light on many rumors and hearsay circulating among Filipinos.
“If we want to know more about guidelines and procedures on how to go about their CW petitions or if they can still stay here, then ask for the right information from the appropriate authorities before the Nov. 27 deadline,” he said in a phone interview.
Malasarte said the information caravan seeks to prevent people from getting the wrong impression about the final rule on foreign workers, which could potentially impact Filipinos negatively.
“We cannot rely on what others say about the immigration just because they said it or they believe in it. We can find out for ourselves by attending the information caravan and listening to the Consulate staff,” he said.
Malasarte added that relying on erroneous information can result in detrimental consequences. “If you encounter problems because of that wrong information, you’ll be the one to suffer in the end.”
Malasarte urged Filipino workers to stop by the Civic Center on Sunday for the information. “Don’t rely on others. Hear it from the Consulate staff who can tell you what is true from what isn’t,” he said.
