GES tops last athletic qualifiers

Garapan Elementary School topped the last qualifiers of the 9U and 12U elementary school PSS/McDonald’s All Schools Athletics 2022-2023 last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field.

The Mallards led nine heats in the boys and girls 100m and 400m, and the 9U girls softball throw event. Tied with five heat wins each were Brilliant Star School and Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School.

GES first led in the 9U girls 100m Heat 1 with Cali Reyes in first place at 16.67; teammate Proa Hiroichi was second at 17.81; third was Hanna Song from Agape Christian School at 18.60 seconds.

The Mallards also topped Heat 2 with Athitaya Sawikan in first place with 18.42; second was Grace Christian Academy’s Nalani Takeda at 18.78; third was Jairie Camacho from Brilliant Star School at 20.67 seconds.

The Mallard boys then swept all three heats of the 9U boys 400m. Shurrab Minto led Heat 1 with 1:31.80; Kintino Eleisiar from GTC was second at 1:35.91; and Brayden Brennfleck was third with 1:36.45.

Aedrian Iglesias topped Heat 2 with 1:33.68; second was Chase Cruz from GTC at 1:39.96; third was ACS’ Joshua Huang at 1:49.36. In Heat 3, Top 3 were Andrey Tay at 1:28.43; second was BSS’ Antisha Heras; and Cloud Tian with 1:35.22.

The 9U girls 400m was topped by Calu Reyes again at 1:29.59; Proa Hiroichi was second at 1:35.28; and third was BSS’ Claire Fehrenbacker at 1:41.28.

Both heats in the 12U girls 400m were also dominated by the Mallards. Heat 1 Top 3 were Seraya Kaniki at 1:17.91; second was Maina Salas from GTC at 1:27.97; third was Kanani Muna from GTC at 1:44.64. In Heat 2, Rhiana Macalinao won first with a time of 1:27.47; second was BSS’ Lucy Thomsen at 1:31.62; third was Lovena Zhou from ACS at 1:46.72.

GES came out with the top spot in Heat 2 of the 12U boys 400m with Kanoa Owens’ time of 1:29.92; second was teammate Nolasko Kaniki with 1:35.71; third was Kagman Elementary School’s Frederick Quitugua at 1:38.09.

The Mallards then came out in first place in the 9U girls softball throw event with Defina Dowai’s 19.45m throw. Second was Rudith Camacho from GTC at 18.93m and third was Proa Hiroichi at 14.59m.

The elementary school championships are scheduled for this Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29.
