Gerrard is named to MVA board, Itibus and Sablan to CNMI Scholarship board
Gov. Arnold I. Palacios has nominated Sachico N. Gerrard to serve on the Marianas Visitors Authority board, while Elizabeth Emma C. Itibus and Monique Boyer Sablan were nominated to serve as members of the CNMI Scholarship board.
Gerrard will represent Saipan businesses on the MVA board, while Itibus and Sablan will represent the Third Senatorial District (Saipan and the Northern Islands) on the Scholarship board.
If confirmed by the Senate, Gerrard, who is the acting general manager of Aqua Resort Club, will serve the remaining term vacated by Thomas T. H. Liu, which will expire on July 17, 2023.
Palacios informed Senate President Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) that the nomination shall serve as a re-appointment of Gerrard to serve a subsequent four-year term, subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
With respect to Itibus’ appointment, because the terms of the board are staggered, if confirmed by the Senate, she will serve the remaining term vacated by Zerlyn Taimanao, which will expire on June 22, 2023.
Palacios said the nomination also serve as a re-appointment of Itibus to serve a subsequent four-year term, subject to advice and consent of the Senate and will expire on June 22, 2027.
Regarding Sablan’s appointment, because the terms of the board are staggered, if confirmed by the Senate, she will serve the remaining term vacated by Geralyn Dela Cruz, which will expire on June 22, 2026.
Sablan used to serve as special assistant for Youth Affairs and managing director for the CNMI Cannabis Commission.
The Scholarship board reviews applications for student grants, student loans, and other programs of student financial assistance administered by the CNMI Scholarship Office. It also recommends objective standards for the award of student financial aid.
