The 5th Genesis Cup Christian Churches Inter-Color Basketball League will feature a youth division when it opens shop next month at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
League organizer Pastor Noel Puno said there are 53 players in the 13 to 18 age group who have registered for the annual caging and they will be divided into four or five teams, depending on the final number of entries. Puno added the youth teams will carry the names of Ezra, Nehemiah, Johan, Joel, and Obadiah.
As for the adult division, 89 players have signed up and Puno said they are looking to have the same number of squads (8) as last year. Team names are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Joshua, Gideon, Samuel, and defending champion Caleb.
Caleb dethroned Daniel in last year’s finals after pulling off a 91-88 come-from-behind win.
Meanwhile, league officials and coordinators of each participating squads will have a meeting on Feb. 22 to decide the final details of the opening day and other important matters. (RBM)
