GCC now accepting applicants for Truck Driving Boot Camp
Guam Community College is accepting applications for its fourth Truck Driving Boot Camp, which begins on Nov. 1, 2022. Maximum class size for this boot camp is 20, so all interested applicants are encouraged to complete the online form of interest at https://guamcc.edu/GCCBootCamps by 5pm, Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022.
Participants must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, receive health clearance from GCC Student Health Center, must be unemployed or underemployed, and possess a valid B Class License.
Participants will be provided with both classroom and hands-on training needed to pass the Department of Revenue and Taxation Division of Motor Vehicles Class C License test. Successful boot campers will also receive certificates in OSHA-10 and be trained in Heartsavers (CPR/First Aid), Work Ethic, and WorkKeys.
Commercial truck drivers are in high demand in Guam and across the nation. The GCC Truck Driving Boot Camp IV gives successful completers the training and knowledge needed to enter this in-demand, high-paying industry. GCC’s Truck Driving Boot Camps have already produced 24 C-licensed truck drivers.
Since GCC first offered boot camps in 2018 there have been 472 participants with 424 of those earning their certificates. This is a 90% completion rate in all GCC boot camps, including bus driving, construction, ship repair, information technology, child care, diesel mechanic, medical home health aide, and certified nursing assistant just to name a few. There are 16 more boot camps slated to start before the end of 2022.
