GCA marches into semifinals

Grace Christian Academy eased its way into the semifinals of both the girls and boys high school divisions of the 2015-2016 Coalition of Private Schools Sports Association Volleyball League after sweeping Agape Christian School yesterday at the Eagles court in Navy Hill.
The Lady Eagles played first and cruised to a 25-10, 25-8 win over ACS to arrange a semis duel against the second-seeded Mt. Carmel School 1.
In the boys high school division, GCA also needed only two sets to eliminate Agape, 25-7, 25-9, and earn the right to face second-ranked Saipan International School 1 in the semifinals.
The two matches at the GCA court marked the start of the playoff round in the league. Two other games were played at the beginning of the playoffs yesterday, but results were unavailable at press time. SIS 2 was scheduled to face MCS 2 in the girls high school match at the Geckos turf, which also hosted the SIS 2 and SIS 3 pairing in the boys high school.
The winner of the SIS 2-MCS 2 tiff will meet No. 1 seed SIS 1 in the semifinals tomorrow at the Whispering Palms court in Navy Hill, while the victor of the all-SIS match in the boys high school will square off against top-ranked MCS 1 also this Wednesday at the Geckos court.
The boys high school finals will then be played this Thursday at Whispering Palms’ court at 4:15pm, while the girls high school title match is set this Friday at the same venue and time. Whispering Palms will also host the co-ed middle school championship game.
Playoff matches in the middle school will begin today with Top 2 finishers SIS 1 and Seventh Day Adventist getting byes in the opening round.
The eight other squads will have their opening matches at the various school courts. At the SIS turf, SIS 3 will take one Whispering Palms at 3:30pm with the winner battling SIS 1 in the quarterfinals. Over at SDA, Saipan Community School 2 will fight SIS 2 at 3:30pm with the victor dueling SDA at 4:30pm.
The other first round pairings will have Agape versus SCS 1 at the former’s court and GCA against MCS at the Eagles’ turf. Both matches will begin at 3:30pm and the pair of semis games this Thursday will have the same starts time and will be played at Whispering Palms.
