Grace Christian Academy dominated Kagman High School, 55-25, last Monday in the 2022 IT&E Interscholastic Girls High School Basketball League opener at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

Lady Eagles’ 5’11” center Azriel Fatialofa controlled the paint with her 45 points. Teammate Soleil Lamar lent a hand as she scored 8 points and the other 2 points came from Katriel Saures.

KHS swooshed the nets for just 7 points in the first period, with 4 points from Priscilla Tomokane, 2 points from Kiana Camacho, and a free throw shot from Elicia Cabrera, but by the end of the first period, Fatialofa’s free throw put her team in the lead by 2 points.

In the end, Fatialofa’s mammoth 45 points drowned out Kagman’s efforts.

In the second game, Mount Carmel School defeated defending champion Marianas High School, 27-25, in extra period.

Chealzka Navarro, who scored 8 points, put in the tie-breaking 2 points in extra period after teammate Valerie Estella tied up the game. Estella and Erin Frink scored a total of 4 points, Mia Abuan scored the most with 9 points, and Asa Backe had 2.

MHS’ Kina Rangamar scored a total of 13 points, Marielle Lopez had 10 and Tamia Hix contributed 2 points.

Saipan Southern High School routed Agape Christian School in a close game, 26-24, in Monday’s third match.

Lady Mantas’ Yasmeen Younis scored 15 points total and the winning and tie-breaking shot in the final seconds.

The Torchbearers’ Eunice Xu contributed 8 points, Ruth Zhang shot 7, Sunny Wang scored 5, and Pheobe Chen and Lynn Zhao scored 2 points each.
