Cooking with a gas stove triggered a fire at a one-story, semi-concrete house occupied by a family in San Vicente yesterday morning.

No one was reported injured and no treatment was provided to anyone at the scene for medical complaints, according to Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Derek Gersonde.

Gersonde said the fire only damaged the kitchen as firefighters were able to contain the blaze in that area.

Gersonde said DFEMS received a call from the Department of Public Safety’s dispatch about a structure fire at a residence across the baseball field in San Vicente at 8:37am.

Firefighters from Susupe and Kagman fire stations responded and placed the blaze under control at 9am.

“The cause of the fire was found to be accidental,” the DFEMS spokesman said.

Arson Investigation Unit investigators learned that occupants of the house were cooking with a gas stove in the kitchen.

A lighted piece of paper was used as a pilot light.

A member of the family exposed the lighted paper to combustible materials, triggering the fire.
