Gas prices go up by 10 cents

Mobil Oil Marianas and Shell Marianas gasoline stations on Saipan increased their gasoline prices by 10 cents yesterday.

For Mobil, the price per gallon for regular gasoline is now at $3.909, while its super unleaded is now $4.23. Price per gallon for diesel is $4.369.

For Shell, regular gasoline is now pegged at $3.91 per gallon, while diesel is now at $4.37 per gallon.

The two companies traditionally mirror each other’s price movements.

The price increase was implemented Wednesday evening.

Charles Ewart, president of Mobil Oil Marianas, confirmed that the oil company increased its pump price by 10 cents a gallon.

“Our pump prices reflect changes in the prevailing wholesale prices and take into account many other factors like distribution and operational costs, etc.” Ewart said in an email.

“Since our last price decrease on Jan. 15, wholesale prices for gasoline have gone up by over 20 percent.”

According to www.fuelgaugereport.com, the average cost of regular gas in the U.S. mainland is $2.15 per gallon, while the national average is at $3.27 per gallon.
