Gas prices go down 10 cents
Saipan motorists are now paying less for gas than what they had been paying in the last several months.
Mobil Oil Mariana Islands and Shell Marianas decreased their gas prices late afternoon yesterday. Mobil gas stations started changing their prices at 3pm while Shell followed around 5pm, as confirmed by attendants and displays on signages.
Regular unleaded gasoline at Mobil gas stations and V-Power at Shell on Saipan is now 10 cents lower, from $4.909 to $4.809.
Super unleaded gasoline at Mobil now costs $5.169, a drop from $5.269.
A supervisor at Mobil gas station on Beach Road, Garapan, confirmed that gas prices have already dropped twice.
“Gas prices dropped on Oct. 11 and also today,” he told Saipan Tribune.
The Shell gas station in Susupe confirmed that they started changing their prices at 4:30pm, while Shell in Puerto Rico still hadn’t changed after 5pm.
According to Shell manager Ronald Benavente, gas price changes were still being forwarded and confirmed through Guam and service stations on Saipan.
As of yesterday, Tinian Mobil went from $6.15 to $6.08 for unleaded and diesel from $6.449 to $6.279. Changes to gas prices on Rota have yet to be confirmed but they historically follow within days.
According to Benavente, the main reason for this is that crude oil prices worldwide are going down.
An Associated Press story last week reported that U.S. motorists are paying 12 cents on average less than they were three weeks ago due to the price decreases in crude oil and ethanol.
