The recent trend in fuel prices is causing a minor whiplash among drivers, with gas prices down 10 cents yesterday, just a little over two weeks since a recent increase.

Mobil Oil Marianas took the lead again, raising its prices late yesterday afternoon, while Shell Marianas is expected to follow suit today. The two oil companies typically mirror each other’s price adjustments.

With this new oil price dip, Mobil now charges $5.31 per gallon of its Extra fuel from $5.41. Mobil’s Supreme fuel also saw a reduction from $5.86 per gallon to $5.76 while diesel fuel went from $5.73 per gallon to $5.58.

Prior to this decrease, local oil companies raised prices from $5.26 per gallon of regular fuel to $5.41. Prior to that, gas went from $5.11 per gallon of regular fuel to $5.26.

Some local motorists appear frustrated by the fluctuating fuel prices while others seem unbothered.

According to a 38-year-old motorist, he would rather see prices at a steady rate than increasing or decreasing every couple of weeks.

“Its like they’re playing around with these prices. One week it’s up, the next week it’s down. Just leave it alone. If it’s high, keep it there; if it’s low, keep it there. The constant change just gives people false hope,” he said.

Another motorist said she’s always happy to see a decrease in fuel prices, even if it is just a few cents.

“I don’t really care much about the gas prices increasing or decreasing because it’s only a few cents. I mean if it was like a dollar, then yes, I would be more bothered. However, I can say I’m happy for whatever relief our community is given, even if it’s just a few cents,” she said.
