Dan Ganacias won the Fil-Taga Golfers Association January Ace of the Month Tournament after carding the lowest net score last Jan. 21 at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo.

The 61-year-old vice president of Enginering at Radio Com Saipan Inc. fired a net score of 66 to top the tournament, which actually coincided with Round 2 of the club’s 2022 Ace of Aces Tournament.

Ganacias shot a gross score of 79 after going 40 in the front nine and 39 at the back, which minus his low 13 handicap, gave him the score to beat for January.

“It feels fantastic to triumph the first Ace of the Month of the year and I do feel relieved that I now have a chance to vie for our 2023 Ace of Aces,” he told Saipan Tribune.

Ganacias was also fairly happy with his golf game that particular Saturday.

“My putting was working well that day which encouraged me to play well from tee to green. The weather that day was dry and cool, which made the game ideal for good scoring,” he added.

Ganacias thanked his wife and family for supporting his love for the game of golf.

“I am also thankful to the Fil-Taga founders, Mike, Jess, and Tony for keeping our club operating for many years now and to Ruben for doing most of the leg work. To this date, I feel a close knit of camaraderie among the officers and members of the Fil-Taga. With these, I dedicate my win to my wife, family, and friends I mentioned above.”

Coming in second to Ganacias in the first monthly tournament of 2023 for Fil-Taga was Freddie Cataluna with his net 72 after the 3-handicapper had it going with a 75 gross (40-35).

Third place was a tie between Ruben Avendano and Wil Maui after both players finished with a net 75. The former shot a gross of 94 (47-47), while the latter returned to the clubhouse with a gross of 86 (40-46).

Mike Cruz (net 79), Ed Varias (net 80), and Ronnie Santos (net 81) also took part in the January Ace.
