Fundraising triathlon, bike races on Sunday
The Islander Rent-A-Car Road To Ironman Triathlon and Bike Race will take place on Sunday, July 19, at Pau Pau Beach Park.
The race is a fundraising event for Erico Castro, who will be competing with Peter Presley in this year’s Cobra Ironman 70.3 in Cebu City, Philippines.
The race is divided into triathlon, and mountain and road bike categories. Registration, which has a $10 fee for individual and $20 for team, starts at 5:15am while triathlon starts at 6am and the bike is at 6:30am.
Triathlon will have men’s, women’s, and relay team divisions where participants will have a 1-kilometer swim around Pau Pau, a 20K bike ride from the parking lot where they will head to Saipan Ice before turning toward Banzai Cliff and back to Pau Pau. The 5K run is from Pau Pau and turn around at FEBC.
The MTB category in the bike race will have beginners and non-beginners in the men’s and women’s divisions. under-30, 31-45, and over-46 are the age groups.
The MTB route for beginners starts at Pau Pau where they will head to Bird Island, Sta. Clause, Cowtown, and back. Non-beginners will go to million gallon tank, turn left to Matansa Dr., proceed to Kamikaze Trail, turn right to Bird Island toward Autobahn, Sta. Clause, Cowtown, proceed to Banzai Cliff and back.
The road bike for beginners will be from Pau Pau, Bird Island, Grotto, Banzai Cliff, and back, while for non-beginners it will be Pau Pau toward Saipan ice, and the four corners minus the radar route.
Medals will be awarded to the Top 3 overall and Top 3 age group finishers for each category. Prizes, from various sponsors, will also be won.
