FSM Congress postpones January session
PALIKIR, Pohnpei–Speaker Dohsis Halbert has postponed convening of the sixth regular session of the 18th Congress from Jan. 10 to convene instead on Jan. 23 in consideration of government activities in the states of Kosrae and Yap.
The regular sessions of Congress are in accordance with Public Law 13-59, which went into effect calendar year 2005, states that the Congress would meet in three regular sessions a year: Jan. 10, May 11, and Sept. 12. It further states that the duration of the sessions would be for a period of 20 days unless extended or shortened by resolution.
Halbert notified the President that in consideration of requests by members and inauguration ceremonies set for the newly elected government administrations of the States of Kosrae and Yap, the January session will be postponed for two weeks.
The January session or the Sixth Regular Session of the 18th Congress will be the current body’s final regular session. Special sessions for the current body can be called by either by the Speaker or by the President anytime between February and May 2015.
Congress is anticipated to address during this final regular session any and all outstanding measures pending before the committees and the body as a whole.
The sixth regular session of the 18th Congress as postponed will convene at 10am on Friday, Jan. 23, in the Congress Chamber in Palikir.
