The community is invited to take part in the “Freedom Walk” from Kristo Rai Church to American Memorial Park on Sept. 11 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Organized by the National Disaster Preparedness and the 10th year September 11th Commemoration Committee, the walk will start at 6pm. Assembly time is at 5pm at Kristo Rai Church.
Ivan Muna Igitol, medical supply specialist/all hazards responder of the Department of Public Health Commonwealth Health Center, said the event aims to honor and support all the uniformed personnel that proudly serve the nation and to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in Sept. 11, 2001.
This year marks the 10th year of the Sept. 11 attacks, which involved a series of four coordinated suicide attacks by the al-Qaida, the Islamic militant group founded by Osama bin Laden.
Al-Qaida terrorists hijacked four passenger jets and crashed them into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and a field in Pennsylvania, which was originally aimed at Washington, D.C.
Thousands of people, mostly civilians, died in the deadly attacks, prompting the United States to launch its war against terrorism.
“We invite you to join us renew our commitment to freedom and the values of our country,” said Igitol. “We are inviting everyone to join us by walking together on this day.”
A brief ceremony will be held after the walk.
