The Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence will be hosting a two-day training called “Trauma-Informed Advocacy: Recognizing the Signs & Symptoms of Trauma in Domestic Violence Victims” on Dec. 14 and 15, 2015, at the Pacific Islands Club that is open to those whose work involve helping victims of domestic violence.

The aim of this advocacy training, which will be from 7:30am to 5:00pm on both days at PIC’s Napu Room, is to provide further education on domestic violence, how to support and help victims, and to serve as a refresher and capacity development opportunity. This training is open to service providers, advocates, as well as interested members of the community.

The training will also provide an in-depth study of trauma, explore the role it plays in domestic violence cases and provide knowledge and resources to enhance trauma-informed services when working with victims of crime, most especially those who have suffered domestic abuse.

Featured topics include the domestic violence movement, the basics of domestic violence and advocacy, laws on domestic and sexual violence, lethality of domestic violence and safety planning, trauma and trauma-informed services, and a faith-based perspective.

While there is no fee to register, seating is limited to the first 75 individuals who register. Those who wish to register and/or seeking additional information may contact Angelyn Nimwes, NMCADSV program manager, at (670) 234-3878 or email angelyn@endviolencenmi.org.

The host of this training, the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2007 with the mission to “promote, nourish and sustain a collective movement to end violence in the CNMI.”
