The Guam Procurement and Technical Assistance Center, or Guam PTAC and the CNMI Small Business Development Center Network, or CNMI SBDC, will present a free training today and tomorrow that will teach participants the basics of federal contracting.

For today, Monday, Jan. 30, the training will be held at the Tinian SBDC, NMC Campus Room D, from 10:30am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm. Register here: https://marianas.ecenterdirect.com/events/1019116

For tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 31, the training will be held at the CNMI SBDC, NMC campus, room V109, from 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm. Register at https://marianas.ecenterdirect.com/events/1019115

On both days, in the morning session, participants will learn how to register in the System of Award Management, or SAM, and how to find federal opportunities; in the afternoon session, they will learn how to get HUBZone and Women-Owned Small Business Certified.

The training topics include Business Plan, Government Contracting, and Woman-owned Businesses.

Nadine C. Deleon Guerrero, SBDC network director, said this training opportunity “is very rare for our CNMI residents.”

“The impending growth of militarization expansion in the Commonwealth signifies a need to be proactive toward finding alternative means to stimulate our economy. Conducting business between military and key federal partners will help ease some of the effects of our tourism market while it recovers,” she said. “We have talent at home, it’s just a matter of positioning to be eligible to compete for project bids like other stateside companies. There is an abundance of opportunity for our local businesses to partake in the bidding process, we just need to get them there. With this training opportunity, our local businesses will be informed on the next steps to becoming a bona fide federal contractor. Much appreciation to the Guam PTAC office for partnering with the CNMI SBDC to make this possible for our local business community.”

Deleon Guerrero encourages those who are interested to sign up for these training sessions that are scheduled to take place Monday, Jan. 30, on Tinian, and Tuesday, Jan. 31, on Saipan to contact their office (670) 237-6888 and register to become an SBDC client to receive information on future training opportunities.

The Guam PTAC, according to its website, provides services needed to ensure that Guam small businesses are competitive in the local and federal marketplace. Partnerships are being developed to expand technical assistance to small businesses. To learn more about the Guam PTAC, visit https://www.marianas.edu/cnmisbdc

The CNMI SBDCN promotes a business-friendly economic infrastructure in the community, builds entrepreneurial capacity and financial literacy within that community, and provides current and nascent small businesses with the technical assistance, counseling, training, and support they need to innovate, adapt, and grow.
