Free ANA grant workshop

The Administration for Native Americans, through its Pacific Region Training and Technical Assistance provider in Hawai’i, Ka’ānani’au LLC, is offering a free one-day workshop, Pre-Application Training, at the Hyatt Regency Saipan on Feb. 20, 2019, from 8am to 4pm, to help participants write an ANA grant for the next cycle.

This is the second of two sections. ANA Pre-Application Training is designed to help you apply for a grant from the Administration for Native Americans. We’ll go over the details of what reviewers are looking for in your grant applications, dissect the most recently published Funding Opportunity Announcements, and teach you tips for standing out from the mass of grant applications.

Come to this training with a project idea already in mind. If you aren’t quite there yet, consider attending our Project Planning & Development training first. The PPD training usually takes place in the fall of each year.

The class will be led by Susan White, CFO/founder of Ka’ānani’au LLC. This year, Manny Borja and Emma Perez will be joining White to teach the class.

White is the owner of ACKCO, Inc. (ackco.org), one of the nation’s largest and most successful providers of services to Native American tribes and communities and a minority shareholder of Kaʻānaniʻau LLC.

White has 30-plus years’ experience in the field of financial management and has been instrumental in crafting policies and operations at the U.S. federal level in regards to Native American and Pacific Islander housing, energy, economic development and more. She has a proven track record of providing successful contract oversight and administration, as well as providing monitoring, on-site training, and technical assistance to organizations and programs in the areas of comprehensive planning, resource development, organizational development, financial management, staff development, administrative operating policies and procedures and economic development.

Borja is a longtime ANA technical assistance consultant and co-author of Directory of Traditional Healers and Medicinal Plants in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Estreyas Marianas Chamorro. He has been part of ANA grant writing teams here in the CNMI, most recently for the Carolinian Affairs Office.

Perez is 500 Sails co-founder and MANGO pro tem treasurer and has 30-plus years of nonprofit finance experience. She has acted as the financial member of successful grant writing teams for a multitude of funders. She was part of the ANA grant writing teams here in the CNMI for both 500 Sails and the Carolinian Affairs Office that were awarded a total of $1,026,191 since 2016.
