Well-known Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter Mike Fowler of Purebred Omiya in Japan is due to visit Saipan anytime in the coming months, according to Trench Tech promoter Cuki Alvarez.

Alvarez said the five-time American National Jiu-Jitsu Championships gold medalist will hold a three-week training on Saipan once power is restored at Sugar King Estate in Garapan, where the Trench Tech Gym is located.

“Mike Fuller plans to come and train on Saipan for two to three weeks once power and water supply normalizes,” Alvarez told Saipan Tribune.

Fowler, who has a background in wrestling in high school, began his grappling career in 2001 and won the lightweight gold in the 2003 Pan-American Championship as a blue belt. He would train at the Trench Tech Gym from 7pm to 9pm.

Alvarez said he has no idea yet of the be-medalled grappler’s plans and other activities on Saipan.

“But once he’s here we’ll work on some private and day trainings as well. And is pretty much open to all who are interested to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,” Alvarez added.

Alvarez said the Trench Tech Gym suffered minimal damage and remains closed after Typhoon Soudelor slammed Saipan last Aug. 2.

“Our gym suffered water flooding and damage to our gear and equipment. Luckily our gym roof stayed intact but the gutters were damaged. That’s why we’re forced to keep the gym closed for the past month and not to mention there’s still no power,” he said.

He also wanted to inform all interested Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners and submission fighters that Trench Tech Gym will be hosting nightly training for two weeks at $50 per person.

“But as soon as power resumes in our area, we will go back to our regular class schedule at Trench Tech Gym,” added Alvarez.
