Four candidates for this year’s Liberation Day
The four candidates who will be vying for this year’s Liberation Day Queen tiara were introduced to the public yesterday in a pinning ceremony at the Saipan Mayor’s Office.
Mayor Donald Flores’ wife Cecilia Flores, along with 2013 Liberation Queen Nicole Sablan, led Liberation Day committee members and parents in pinning the sashes on Pressel Camacho, Desiree Crisostomo, Rita Doca, and Gilitinan Ramangau.
Liberation Day Queen committee chair Joann Aquino, Liberation Day treasurer Terry Camacho, Flores, and Liberation Day overall chair Vincente Camacho also presented the candidates with the tickets that they will need to sell as part of the competition. The one who sells the most number of tickets wins.
The candidates have until June 30 to sell the tickets, which cost $5 per booklet.
According to Terry Camacho, there are guidelines the candidates need to follow in selling the tickets. They can only sell Liberation Day raffle tickets, account for and report all sales of raffle tickets that has been assigned to them, and must submit their raffle tickets and any fundraising proceeds to the committee.
“Under Article 3 Section 1, ‘unsold’ tickets will be deducted from the tickets sold,” Terry Camacho said.
Vincente Camacho said the candidates will be trained on how to interact with the public and introduce themselves to people. There will also be activities the candidates will be required to participate.
“Don’t think about losing or winning. The point of this is not about winning but to have fun,” Vincente Camacho said.
2013 Liberation Queen Sablan, 21, urged the candidates to always remain graceful and grateful whenever they are in the public and anywhere else.
“Continue to have fun as well and whether they win or not and no matter how they place, always remember to remain graceful and grateful,” Sablan said.
Aquino told the candidates that the last date to deposit checks is on June 23.
The Liberation Day Committee is encouraging the public to support this year’s batch of candidates.
