A Public School System awardee in 2017 was arrested last week for allegedly punching his common-law wife in a dispute over cigarettes.

Faustino Mad Tmilchol, 57, was arrested and brought to Superior Court Friday for his initial appearance on charges of assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

The common-law wife told police that she fears for herself and their children’s safety and claims that Tmilchol has been abusive throughout their 20-year relationship.

The victim said it was her fourth time to call the police for help against Tmilchol.

Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho allowed the defendant to post a $500 cash plus $9,500 in unsecured bond for his temporary release.

According to police detective Myron O. Laniyo’s report, the alleged victim called the police for help last Thursday at 8am.

The police officer came upon the victim at her house in As Lito. She was crying next to her car, with some children. The officer observed a damaged car door handle and a brick on the ground.

Police then arrested Tmilchol.

The victim told police that their argument started last Wednesday when she forgot to buy cigarettes for Tmilchol. She accused Tmilchol of slapping her, punching her in the right ear, and threatening to break the windshield of their car with a brick if she does not open the car. A neighbor came and stopped Tmilchol from throwing the brick at the car. During this time, the children kept trying to stop Tmilchol.

In 2017, PSS presented Tmilchol with Trades and Maintenance of the Year award at Saipan Southern High School. He is currently head of SSHS maintenance.
