FOA to stage Into the Woods
The Friends of the Arts’ most spectacular play of the season is coming up. The James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim Broadway musical Into the Woods will be performed on May 9, 10 and 11.
This is a postponement of the earlier announced April schedule.
The award-winning Broadway musical will be directed by Harold Easton, assisted by Marilou Conner, with Katie Hoyt as the musical director for this Friends of the Arts production.
Into the Woods debuted in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre in 1986 and premiered on Broadway on Nov. 5, 1987, where it won several Tony Awards.
The musical plot stems from several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales, with characters taken from Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella. The story follows a childless baker and his wife in their quest to begin a family by finding a red cape, a white cow, corn-yellow hair and a magic slipper to get a wicked witch to remove a curse she has placed on them.
This play, just before Mother’s Day, will be dedicated to all of the moms of the community, who are invited to attend at half-price.
The play will be held at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe. Show dates will be on May 9, 10 and 11, all shows starting at 7pm. Tickets prices for all three shows start at $4 for students, $6 for FOA members, and $8 for adults and half-price for all moms! You may purchase tickets at Bridge Capital at their front desk, from members of the play’s cast and at the door for each performance.
The Friends of the Arts is the CNMI’s local community theater organization that promotes performing arts through hosting several plays each year. For more information or ticket reservations, contact Frank Gibson through email at flgibson@yahoo.com.
