Float parade on Saturday
The Parade of Floats will kick off tomorrow’s festivities of the Christmas in the Marianas Festival, with more than 20 floats expected to join the celebration. The parade will start between 5pm to 6pm at the Garapan Fishing Base and end at the American Memorial Park.
Organizers are asking participating schools to put in their best float since a total of $4,400 in prize money will be given away. Other members of the community are also encouraged to join but will not be part of the competition.
A biker Santa and the Matua riders will lead the parade, together with fire trucks, other government agencies, and various organizations. All participants are requested to be at the Fishing Base before 5pm.
The CHCC-DPH-NCD and the Saipan Walking Society will be giving away T-shirts during the parade and award $1,000 in prizes to the school with the most participants.
Participants who will join the parade wearing costumes will receive prizes and other fun items from the organizing committee.
The Christmas carol contest resumes at the Paseo de Marianas at 7pm after the parade. Te elementary schools of Koblerville and Oleai, and the Marianas and Saipan Southern high schools will be performing.
The Tourism Oriented Police Section band will be bringing their special brand of music to the festivities.
Winners of the caroling, float parade, Christmas tree, teachers’ karaoke, funny costumes, and most spirit will be named where over $30,000 in prizes are at stake. Every participating school will walk away with a prize.
