Flame Tree Arts Festival opening ceremony moved to Thursday
The Commonwealth Council of Arts and Culture would like the community to know that the Flame Tree Arts Festival opening ceremony this year will be held Thursday next week, from their original date of Saturday.
CCAC executive director Angel Hocog said that it’s been a practice that they open on Saturday but after talks with Department of Culture and Community Affairs Secretary Laura Ogumoro, they decided to host the ceremony on the festival’s opening day itself.
This would get more participants for the ceremony, he explained, and unlike previous years, would line up with their opening date.
The festival’s organizing committee voted unanimously on this change yesterday.
According to committee member Gordon Marciano, this year they are joining forces on stage with radio hosts for the first time. “We are happy to have them,” he said.
Another highlight this year is the Bridge Capital-sponsored 5th Annual CNMI Art Competition. Interested artists are welcome to register and compete in categories like Best of Show, Paintings, Wood Carving and Others, Photography, Texter’s Choice Award, Governor’s Choice Award, and Best New Artist.
Bridge Capital last sponsored the competition two years ago in 2013.
They are donating $5,000 to support the Flame Tree Arts Festival and are sponsoring over $13,000 in cash prizes for the art competition.
