Flag-raising rites honor Guam ports veterans
HAGATNA, Guam—Under bright and clear skies, a flag-raising ceremony was held at the Guam Congress building yesterday, honoring veterans from the Port Authority of Guam. Those in attendance included members from the 34th Guam Legislature, U.S. Coast Guard, Naval Base Guam, Guam Air National Guard, and Port.
The guest speaker for the event was assistant Port Police Chief Col. Christopher A. Roberto.
“Be it their own way to travel the world, learn new skills, make a new life for themselves and their families or out of family tradition, they have all raised their right hand and swore allegiance to the flag as members of the world’s strongest military to preserve and protect the freedoms that we all enjoy today,” said Roberto, who is also a master sergeant with the Guam Air National Guard.
The inaugural Veterans Commemoration Flag-Raising Ceremony was held in November last year and is held every month to recognize veterans and those currently serving in the military. The next flag-raising ceremony is slated for Monday, July 9, 2018. (PR)
