Five students win PSS Digital Learning Day contest

Five students from private and public schools were named winners of the 2021 Digital Learning Day competition of the Public School System in a special ceremony last Friday, March 5, at the Aqua Resort Club.
For the Early Elementary Level (Kindergarten to Grade 2), Candice Trasmano, a second-grade student at Golden Harvest International School, won the top prize. She submitted a short essay on “how technology helps me learn.”

Sinapalo Elementary School 4th grade student Jasmine Coleen Yalung won the elementary level (3rd-5th Grade category). She submitted a multimedia presentation on how technology helps her succeed in learning.
Philip Megino was the winner for the middle school level. He submitted a video poetry on the importance of technology in learning.
There were two winners for the high school category: Jermaine Chloe Yalung, a 10th-Grader from Dr. Rita H. Inos Jr. Sr. High School, and Patricia Ann Castillon, an 11th-Grader from Marianas High School. Their individual multimedia production entry on “What is a 21st Century Learner” won them the award.

Digital Learning Day was launched by the school district in 2012. Dr. Bobby James Cruz, PSS director of instructional technology, explained that Digital Learning Day “showcases the integration of technology in learning throughout the CNMI.”
Lorraine Catienza, program manager for the school district’s distance education, said the competition was also created to support and enhance the role of teachers in classrooms, and promote the effective use of modern tools to improve the learning experience for CNMI students. (PR)
