Gov. Benigno R. Fitial renominated both NMI Retirement Fund board chair Bernadita C. Palacios and trustee Marian DLG. Tudela, a few days after recalling the renomination of former Fund board chair Sixto Igisomar so he could re-appoint him.

Fitial also renominated Roman S. Demapan to serve another six-year term on the Board of Professional Licensing representing Saipan.

The April 30 renominations of Palacios, Tudela, and Demapan require the advice and consent of the Senate.

If confirmed by the Senate, Tudela will serve another four-year term expiring on May 2, 2016. Tudela represents Saipan on the Fund board.

Palacios’ re-appointment, once confirmed by the Senate, will allow her to serve as Fund trustee until May 4, 2016.

Palacios succeeded Igisomar, whose re-appointment did not sit well with the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Governmental Investigations. Palacios represents Tinian on the Fund board. The Fitial administration said it strongly believes that Igisomar can continue to be a tremendous asset especially at this very critical juncture of the NMI Retirement Fund. The Fund has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Demapan, once confirmed by the Senate, will serve on the BPL another six-year term that expires on May 13, 2017.

“The Lt. Governor and I are confident that you are qualified and will continue to be an asset on this important board,” Fitial said in separate letters to the three appointees.

Besides Palacios and Tudela, the other Fund board trustees are vice chair Adelina C. Roberto and Nacrina Barcinas. The board currently has three vacancies after the term expiration and resignation of the following trustees: Igisomar, Frank Rosario, and Jerry Crisostomo.
