No one was reported injured in the blaze, according to Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Derek Gersonde yesterday.
Gersonde said smoke and heat damage were found on the northern part of the building, which were occupied by the Law Office of Park and Plumeria Store II.
Fire investigators determined that the blaze originated from the Plumeria Store II.
Gersonde said DFEMS received a call from Department of Public Safety 911 dispatch on Saturday at 7:15am about a fire at a building on Beach Road, Quarter Master, where the Park’s Law Office is located.
Gersonde said firefighters and medics from the Susupe and Garapan fire stations responded to the location.
Firefighters placed the fire under control at 8:39am.
Firefighters prevented the blaze from transferring to other businesses in the same building.
It is the first fire incident in the CNMI this year.
Last Dec. 21, a fire of unknown cause engulfed an abandoned semi-concrete one-story house near Saipan Southern High School along Tinaktak Drive in Koblerville.
Last Dec. 4, fire broke out at a barbecue stand in San Vicente and investigators determined that the cause was electrical. The barbecue stand sustained minor damage.
