Fire hits Chalan Kanoa house Saturday

On Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at approximately 1:19pm, a female caller called 911 reporting heavy smoke in Chalan Kanoa near the Chalan Kanoa Beach Hotel.

Fire engines, medic, and rescue vehicles from the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene at 1:21pm. At 1:30pm, Engine 4 was the first to arrive on scene and confirmed the garage was fully engulfed in flames. At 1:36pm, the fire was declared under control.

DFEMS Division of Fire Prevention and Arson Investigation led by Firefighter Max. R. Muna stated his initial scene observations that, after arriving on scene at around 2:4pm and after being briefed by Alpha Shift Commander Lt. B. Kaipat, “I observed a fully concrete 3-bedroom, 2- bath structure. The structure had a garage connected to it located at the northeastern side. Through witness and scene investigation, the fire started at the northeastern side. Further scene investigation revealed that the most affected area was the garage, suffering from moderate to severe heat and smoke damage. In further investigation, the neighboring residence located at the northeast of the structure was burning natural debris, with moderate wind speeds heading south toward the affected structure.

Muña concluded that the cause of the fire was accidental from the debris. (DFEMS)
