A fire of still unknown cause engulfed a yellow Camaro that was rented by a group of tourists at Banzai Cliff in Marpi on Sunday afternoon.

No one was reported injured, according to Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Derek Gersonde last night.

Gersonde said DFEMS received a call from the Department of Public Safety dispatch about a vehicle on fire at Banzai Cliff on Sunday at 2:52pm.

Firefighters from the Susupe Station and medics from Garapan Fire Station as well as arson investigators arrived at the scene at 3:05pm, Gersonde said.

By 3:29pm, the fire was extinguished and under control.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Arson Investigation Unit,” Gersonde said.

No other details were provided.

Saipan Tribune learned that the car belongs to Summit Car Rental. The company’s owner said he has no details about the incident but stated that no one was hurt.

The owner said his manager can provide more information. Saipan Tribune tried to contact the manager last night, but he did not answer his phone.
