Finance strengthening electronic data processing division
The Department of Finance is strengthening its electronic data processing division, which maintains the CNMI Tax System, Election Commission Registration System and JD Edwards Financial Management System.
According to Finance Secretary Larrisa Larson, the division provides government departments connectivity to the server, technical support, printing services, programming support for multiple systems, and all upgrades and in addition to connectivity to the JD Edwards for other government offices.
“EDP has also been working with CHCC to combine our limited resources and keep operational costs down for report development and technology related issues that impact collections. With this collaboration, it is our hope that the revenue of the hospital will improve and will then be able to better sustain itself,” Larson said.
Currently, EDP is working on an online payment system in conjunction with the Department of Commerce and other agencies to allow online tax payments and other services electronically.
“As part of strengthening EDP, the Laserfiche Rio software for records management to document routing, electronic forms and digital signatures has been installed and is functional. Staff certification has been ongoing to maintain the project which will not only increase workforce capacity but reduce reliance on consultants for greater cost savings in the government,” Larson said.
Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres said that EDP has taken on a significant project of developing a paperless system for the Commonwealth.
“I commend EDP for moving forward with a system where not only are data and documents stored electronically, but documents requiring signatures are routed electronically to increase government efficiency while reducing document storage issues that have become burdensome for government departments. This will better serve the Commonwealth to improve public services in this digital age,” Torres said. (Office of the Governor)
