The Department of Finance has released its first batch of tax rebates, refunds, child tax, and American opportunity tax credit last Friday, June 3.

According to Secretary of Finance Larrisa Larson, the first batch is comprised of all filers who filed on time and were cleared as of May 28.

She noted that Saipan refunds will be released in the mail, while Tinian and Rota will be released at respective finance offices.

Larson adds that if any issues from prior year tax filings are still pending, this may delay the release of tax checks, and reminds filers to clear those prior year items at their earliest convenience.

In this first batch of refunds and rebates, $4,522,356.66 in Child Tax for the entire CNMI have been released, $126,298.22 in American Opportunity Tax Credit, $4,182,276.69 in refunds/rebates for Saipan, $371,076.81 in refunds/rebates for Tinian, $372,149.58 in refunds/rebates for Rota, and $412,060.04 for the loan programs at the various banks who allowed loans against the tax refund/rebate. This amounts to a total of $9,986,218 released for the first batch of refunds/rebates.

All taxpayers are again asked to allow time for the U.S. Postal Service to sort and distribute the mail by June 13.

As taxpayers clear the pending items on the remaining tax returns, the Department of Finance will continue release of pending refunds/rebates/child tax and American Opportunity Tax Credits.

Please contact the Division of Revenue and Taxation to clear any issues that may be pending for your filing if you don’t receive your tax check by Monday, June 13.

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and the Department of Finance thank everyone for their continued patience and cooperation for the release of these much anticipated checks. Any and all questions can be answered by the Division of Revenue and Taxation at 664-1000, 1040, 1043, or 1098.
