Final leg of the Taste of Marianas tomorrow
The 16th Taste of the Marianas, which has been drawing thousands of visitors and community members to the American Memorial Park every Saturday this month, will end tomorrow, May 31.
The Taste of the Marianas has always been one of the most highly anticipated events organized by the Marianas Visitors Authority every year and it’s being staged all Saturdays of May from 6pm to 10pm in celebration of Tourism Month.
According to MVA community projects manager Martin Duenas, the last day will close at 11pm instead of 10pm.
MVA executive director Perry Tenorio said the Taste of the Marianas continues to grow in participation, performances, and diversity every year.
Tenorio noted that the Taste of the Marianas began in 1999 and was developed to let visitors and residents mingle and enjoy each other’s cultures.
“I think a lot of the community members enjoy the event. We’re very proud of it and we’re very happy the community enjoys it very much,” Tenorio said.
A total of 14 hotels and restaurants on Saipan are participating in this year’s festival, providing a dizzying array of local and international cuisines to choose from.
The following weeks had various entertainment and competitions.
“The first four nights were successful and we have been seeing new faces as far as entertainment and competitions are concerned,” Duenas said.
Competitions included a hotdog-eating contest, a pie-eating contest, a balloon-popping contest—all of which were open for public participation. The most recent one was the bartender’s cocktail competition.
Duenas told Saipan Tribune that the last competition will be the Chef’s Competition, which will start as early as 4:30pm. Judging will take place at 6pm.
Performances this Saturday will feature Maluw Band, Ladies of Micronesia, Yapese Group, Ana Glushko Academy, Rose Dance School, Saipan Music and Dance School, Marianas High School Poksai Guma Chamorro, Invitation to all Refaluwasch Warriors, and Teivi Mori.
The Booth Competition winners will also be announced tomorrow.
MVA is inviting the public to join and help celebrate the final leg of the Taste of Marianas this year.
