Filipino group to commemorate 1st Haiyan anniversary

In commemoration of the first anniversary of Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated the Philippines particularly the Central Visayas and adjacent regions on Nov. 8, 2014, the U.S. Pinoys for Good Governance Marianas Chapter, in collaboration with the Global Filipino Diaspora Marianas and National Federation of Filipino American Associations Marianas chapter, will be holding several activities on Nov. 8 on Saipan and Guam, said Dr. Celia Lamkin, chairperson of US Pinoys for Good Governance Marianas chapter, founding chairperson of Global Filipino Diaspora Marianas, and chairperson of NaFFAA Marianas chapter for the CNMI and Guam.

A teleconference on Wednesday was called by and presided by Loida Nicolas Lewis, national chairperson of US Pinoys for Good Governance  and Global Filipino Diaspora Council, to discuss the forthcoming first anniversary of Typhoon Haiyan and its relationship with the request for Temporary Protected Status for the Philippines. Among those who attended the meeting were Lamkin, US4PGG President Rodel Rodis, NaFFAA national chairman JT Mallonga, NaFFAA New Jersey member Merit Salud, USP4GG Washington, D.C. member Eric Lachica, Mitzi Pickard, Daisy Tucay and USP4GG New York member Joe Ramos.

The members and volunteers of the USP4GG Marianas chapter, members of the Global Filipino Diaspora Marianas and members of the Filipino community in the CNMI who are concerned about their fellow Filipinos are welcome to attend the community meeting on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, from 6pm to 8pm, at the San Antonio Parish Social Hall in San Antonio, Saipan.
