Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan avenged its first round loss to JP Mambas after eking out a come-from-behind 53-49 win in their second meeting in the 2016 Tan Holdings Inter-Company Basketball League last Friday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

Fiesta, which fell to Mambas last month, 42-45, played without three of its key players in last weekend match but still prevailed after drawing a good debut from Fradel Sedillo and strong finish from holdover Jerald Rivera.

Sedillo anchored Fiesta’s recovery in the second half, which started with Mambas enjoying a double-digit lead, 30-20. The lefty guard scored 8 straight markers midway in the final frame and had 12 in that period to help Fiesta overhaul Mambas’ lead.

Rivera, on the other hand, drilled Fiesta’s last 6 markers to complete the come-from-behind victory. He finished with 13 markers to back up Sedillo, who tallied 16 in his first game with his new team. Adonis Macoto and Paul Quizon also did their share, adding 11 and 10, respectively, to make up for the absence of Elmer Esdrelon, Arjay Nonato, and Jarett Matsutaro.

Fiesta improved to a 5-2 record for second place behind the unbeaten Kanoa Resort (7-0), while Mambas dropped to a 2-5 mark and is still in fourth place ahead of Lower Base (1-6) and POI (1-6).

Tony Raho paced Mambas with his 18 points, but was held to two field goals in the second half. Djay Ong contributed 12, while Ferdie De La Torre logged 10.

Fiesta 53 — Sedillo 16, Rivera 13, Macoto 11, Quizon 10, Demafelix 3.
JP Mambas 49 — Raho 18, D. Ong 12, De La Torre 10, Rabago 7, Chan 2.
Scoring by halves: 20-30, 53-49.
