Fielders trump Ol’Aces, 17-6

  The IP&E-Shell Fielders defeated the Ol’Aces, 16-7, in their second round matchup in the Saipan Major League Baseball Association Thursday night at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

It was a much-needed win for IP&E, which improved its win-loss record to 3-5, while the Ol’Aces dropped to a 5-3 slate.

Additionally, defending champion St. Michael’s Medical Response Angels (4-3) toppled the Rep. Sylvestre Iguel Masters (1-6), 17-7, in eight innings last Tuesday.

The season continues Monday at 6:30pm at Tan Ko Field when the Ol’Aces take on co-frontrunner Saipan Stevedore Co. Northern Yankees (6-1).

Tan Holdings Brewers (6-1) and the Rep. Ray Yumul D-9ers (0-6) make up the rest of the SML field.

Fielders 16, Ol’Aces 7

IP&E Fielders assumed an early 3-0 lead in the first inning from a couple of base rips by Wenser Namelo and Cadez Tenorio that were followed by a pair of walks for a bonus run.

IP&E added two more runs in the second inning from a leadoff triple by Anthony Tenorio and another RBI single by Cadez Tenorio.

They remained patient at the plate as the count shifted to 9-3 after the three innings. IP&E’s Anthony Tenorio and John Reyes bashed a pair of RBI base hits, while three runs made it around off wild throws.

Ol’Aces also mustered three runs with the help from some shaky defense. Ol’Aces’ Jess Iguel chalked up an RBI in the mix.

IP&E then cracked four hits in the fourth and trudged forward, 11-3, but stumbled again in the bottom frame and allowed three runs by the Ol’Aces.

Though IP&E never lost control, the Ol’Aces managed to draw out the game to all nine innings.

They trotted ahead, 14-6, in the sixth of a couple of RBI base knocks by Shane Mendiola and John Reyes and sprinkled runs in the seventh and ninth before on rout to the easy win.

Anthony Tenorio batted 5-for-5 with two triples, three RBIs, five runs, and two bases on balls.

Angels 17, Masters 7

The Angels pushed in front, 2-0, in the first inning off three hits. Franco Flores bagged an RBI single.

They added a run in the second inning off an error and then jumped ahead, 6-1, after bringing around three more runs in the fourth off three hits. Hector Efraim came away with an RBI base rip.

Three more runs came in for the Angels in the fifth frame after four more hits. Jay Camacho led off with a double, John Reyes roped a triple, and Nunu Kapileo nabbed an RBI single in the exchange.

Both teams traded a run in the sixth inning and the Masters halved their deficit, 5-10, in the seventh off some sketchy pitching and a two-RBI bash by Mark Flores.

The Masters pulled within three runs in the top of the eighth, but fell apart out in the field as the Angels sewed together a nine-run surge with two outs that slammed the door.

The Angels busted six hits in the inning, which include an RBI double by Marvin Kaipat, an RBI single by Kapileo, a two-RBI smash by Efraim, and an RBI base poke from Peter Tenorio; Tenorio scored the game winner soon after off an error.

John Reyes batted 5-for-6 with an RBI, four runs, and three stolen bases.
