Fielders fend off Hunters in Senior League, 8-4

Cabrera-Hunters, 8-4, during their Senior League game in the Saipan Little League last Thursday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

The Fielders’ Poland Masaharu tripled home Gayvan Uchau and scored off an error to provide and early spark in the first inning and Joe Kileleman worked his way around in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. The Fielders then added two more runs in the third off a wild pitch and an RBI triple by Khobby Kaipat.

The Hunters mustered their first run in the top of the fourth from an RBI base rip by Jesus Mafnas, but Fielders’ Davin Ada got it back in the bottom frame when he doubled in Jared Lizama.

The Hunters managed three runs off five hits in the fifth, but Fielders’ reliever Ada was eventually called in to stop the bleeding. Ada went on to contain the Hunters for the last two frames, while he and the Fielders delivered a pair of insurance runs in the clutch. Kaipat scored Masaharu with a fielder’s choice in the fifth, while Ada scored off a fielder’s choice by Uchau in the sixth to help the cause.

Winning pitcher Lizama gave up four earned runs off eight hits, a walk, and a bean ball with five strikeouts through four and two-thirds innings. Masaharu batted 3-for-4 with a RBI and three runs

In other Senior League results, Marianas Cable Vision-Rep. Ramon Basa-Frederick P. DL Guerrero-Kagman Lions held on to overcome Saipan Shipping Company’s Jets I, 15-12, last Tuesday

In the Big League, Paradise Island Animal Hospital-Hustlers laid the hammer down on the defending champion Docomo Pacific-Ol’Aces, 7- and the Ol’Aces earned a 14-8 victory over the Sen. Ralph Torres-Rep. Ramon S. Basa-Frederick P. DL Guerrero-Kagman Lions on April 19.

In the Junior League, DPS Dare Program-Leep-Enforcers rumbled past the IT&E Fielders last Sunday, 12-5.

SENIOR LEAGUE

Lions 15, Jets I 12

The Lions’ Justin Santos, Cedric Ada and Dave Matagolai all made it on and around in the first inning for an early 3-0 lead.

Justin Reyes was next as he bashed a two-run in-the-park homer in the second inning, bringing Austin Agulto home.

The Fielders had a run to start the third off an error, and the Fielders roared back to within one in the bottom frame. Daniel Smith doubled home Peter Borja from first base before Mathew Maeda obliged with an RBI double. Allen Cabrera scored Maeda with a sacrifice fly and the last run came off an error.

The Lions did not back down, however and added two runs in the fourth inning from another in-the-park homer by Reyes and a stolen dish by Santos.

Bret Halstead stole home later in the fifth and the Lions still led, 9-7, despite allowing the Fielders three runs in the bottom frame off a Fiedler’s choice and a two-RBI single by John Kileleman.

The Lions came away with another run in the top of the sixth from a base knock by Brel Yobech, but the Fielders threatened with a six-run up rise in the bottom frame to pull ahead, 12-10. Cabrera bagged an RBI single and Kileleman another two-RBI smash.

The Lions would simply not be denied, however, and rose to the occasion once again with five runs in the seventh inning off five hits. Reyes singled and stole home, Justin Santos bagged an RBI single, and Ada played the hero with a clutch three-run in-the-park home run.

Reyes swung 4-for-4 with three RBIs, one run and a stolen base, while Santos crossed home four times.

BIG LEAGUE

Hustlers 7, Ol’Aces 1

After two scoreless innings, the Hustlers mustered three runs in the top of the third inning off a wild pitch and a two-RBI double by MacGarette Duenas.

The Ol’Aces got a run back from Leonard Sablan in the bottom frame, but the Hustlers work horse pitcher Brian Camacho kept them at bay for the remainder of the contest.

Hustlers’ Duenas reached on an error and was grounded home by Jeremy Lizama in the fifth and McJarrel Espina busted a two-RBI triple and scored off a wild pitch in the sixth to help secure the victory. The Ol Aces left runners on the corners in the final stand.

Camacho went the distance and gave up one run off four hits, five walks, and a bean ball with nine strikeouts.

Ol’Aces 14, Lions 8

The Ol’Aces’ Rocco Reyes belted an RBI double and scored off an error in the first inning for an early 2-1 edge.

The Lions briefly tied it at 2-all in the top of the second, but the Ol’Aces answered with eight runs in the bottom frame off seven hits. Jake Santos and Diego Camacho bagged RBI doubles, Keoni Lizama had a two-RBI single, Jacob Flores hit an RBI single, and Felipe Litulumar finished off the run with a two-RBI triple.

The Ol’Aces padded their lead with two more runs in the third inning from a triple by Harry Nakamura and an RBI single by Keoni Lizama and never looked back. Lizama went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs in the win.

JUNIOR LEAGUE

Enforcers 12, Fielders 5

The Enforcers leaped in front out of the gate, 5-0, off four hits. Caleb Takao cracked a two-RBI double, while Darrion Jones and Franklin Lizama each bagged RBI singles.

The Fielders responded with three runs in the bottom frame from some early errors, followed by a stolen dish by Kainoa Wanket and a sacrifice fly by Dane Salazar.

The count shifted to, 6-4, after both teams added a run in the third inning and the Enforcers nailed two more runs in the fourth off three hits. Jones delivered an RBI single and PJ Sablan nailed an RBI double.

The Fielders mustered a run later in the bottom of the fifth, but the Enforcers dealt the knockout blow in the top of the sixth with another four runs. Jones jacked a two-run in-the-park homer, while the other runs came off an error and a wild pitch. The Fielders went three up and three down in the last two frames.
