FEMA mitigation advisor offers rebuilding advise

Share

The Federal Emergency Management Agency continues to offer advice directly to individuals repairing and rebuilding structures damaged by Typhoon Mangkhut or Super Typhoon Yutu.

Harold Atwell, a mitigation advisor, has visited with nearly 800 people on Saipan in the past weeks about how to rebuild safer, smarter, and stronger. Simple measures can make homes and other buildings much more resistant to disasters.

In fact, research shows that mitigation actions save up to $6 in damages for every dollar invested. Atwell will visit three more Saipan hardware stores between Jan. 26 and Feb. 6 to help residents and building professionals understand the steps they can take now to better guard against damage from wind and water. Please see the schedule below, and we ask for your help sharing this information with the public.

Guang Dong Hardware
Jan. 25-26, from 8am to 4:30pm
As Lito Road, Chalan Kanoa

Hong Ye Hardware
Jan. 29-Feb. 2, from 8am to 4:30pm
Afetna Road, San Antonio

Transamerica Corp
Feb. 5-6, from 8am to 4:30pm

Some of the people with whom Atwell has visited in January described the success of the actions they took after Typhoon Soudelor when Yutu struck Saipan. (PR)
