Fejeran submits resignation letter to Inos
Businessman Ben T. Fejeran submitted yesterday his resignation letter to Gov. Eloy S. Inos, a day after telling Saipan Tribune he will resign as early as this week as special adviser for trade and industrial development to avoid possible conflict of interest should he decide to be a part of a private development project.
He said his resignation is “effective immediately.”
“I am aware that this is totally unexpected, please accept my sincere apologies. I have made this decision after much reflection and soul searching…I want to thank you for understanding my action and rest assured that I am always ready and willing to continue serving you in any capacity that I am able to provide you with,” Fejeran said in a one-page letter to the governor, a copy of which was obtained yesterday.
Fejeran has held the post for four months or since March 27. He was not being compensated for the post.
“I felt so honored and I truly appreciate your confidence; however, I regret to inform you that I am resigning from this position, effective immediately, for personal reasons,” he told the governor.
He said in an interview that he is resigning because he does not want to have any conflict of interest, perceived or otherwise, when he decides to become a part of a private development project in the future. He said that would give him a peace of mind.
Fejeran thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve him and the CNMI people as special adviser for trade and industrial development.
Fejeran’s appointment has drawn question from some community members, including being a special adviser when he as a businessman has outstanding debts to the Department of Public Lands amounting to over $1 million, involving his former business Solid Builders.
But Fejeran said there are just some people who get “jealous” or “envious when they see others trying to do something, getting up, and they try to pull him down.”
