The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library hosted some great events for the tweens, teens and adults last February. Two such events were Hour of Code and Baking Basics class. Both were free events intended to teach both youth and adults skills such as coding and baking.
Hour of Code last Feb. 14, 2019, explored the very basics of coding. Participants used KhanAcademy.org to guide them as they learned, and they also learned about the history of coding. At the end of the class, participants were able to code their own basic website, using different colors, styles, and pictures.
Baking Basics last Feb. 22, 2019, was a class that aimed to teach participants the basics of baking; cupcakes were used to teach the basics. Baking chocolate cupcakes from scratch proved to be a great experience for the participants. Participants also learned how to make a simple chocolate buttercream frosting to decorate their cupcakes. At the end of the class, everyone enjoyed snacking on the cupcakes they had baked. (PR)
