Federal Bureau of Investigation special agent Haejun Park testified yesterday in federal court about a lot of documents and items, including “expensive” handbags, they found and seized during a search at the residence of Leyda and Melvin Ada on Sept. 25, 2012.

Park also testified that among the items found during the search was $4,000 cash “hidden” in a basket filled with lingerie.

After Park, the prosecution called to the witness stand Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation special agent Todd Peterson, who served as the leader of a team that searched the Ada couple’s business, Island Trendz, located in Garapan, on the same day that the couple’s house was searched. Peterson is expected to continue his testimony when the jury trial of Leyda Ada will resume this morning, Tuesday.

Park testified that most of the documents that they retrieved during the search were found in the kitchen area.

Assistant U.S. attorney Ross Naughton showed numerous documents to Park, who identified them as the documents and items that they seized during the search.

The FBI special agent identified, among the documents and items, as the couple’s several notebooks or journals; shopping list of equipment or materials for future renovation of a residence; CNMI tax returns for years 2006 to 2008; a Medicaid folder containing identification documents, 2009 tax return, bank statements; a food stamp folder; Tuturam land records; documents found in a Nissan Rogue folder; documents for the sale of a 1975 Toyota Corolla; four loan documents; and documents for a 1991 pick-up truck; Bank of Guam deposit slips; and Worker Compensation papers.

Park testified that he took most of the photos of seized papers and items.

Handbags found were a Celine bag, Louis Vuitton wallet, Louis Vuitton cross-body bag; Celine leather bag, Givenchy black cloth wallet, Prada black cloth handbag, Louis Vuitton handbag, and Louis Vuitton brown/gold handbag.

Ada is accused of conspiring with her husband, Melvin, to perpetrate healthcare fraud exceeding $1.7 million. She is on trial for conspiracy to commit money laundering, money laundering, and perjury. Melvin pleaded guilty and is waiting for his sentencing.
