FBI has open investigation in Luhk sisters’ disappearance

The Federal Bureau of Investigation yesterday disclosed that it maintains an open investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Faloma and Maleina Luhk five years ago in As Teo, Saipan.

Asked for an update in their investigation, FBI Honolulu Division supervisory special agent Matthew McDonald said they continue to take tips and investigate any viable leads that they receive.

“Unfortunately, thus far none of the tips or leads have resulted in evidence sufficient for criminal charges,” McDonald said.

However, the FBI spokesman said, they welcome the public’s vigilance and concern over this matter and urge them to come forward should they have any information.

Then 10-year-old Faloma and 9-year-old Maleina Luhk were last seen on their way to school on May 25, 2011, near a bus stop pavilion in As Teo.

Elbert Quitugua, grandfather of the Luhk sisters, told Saipan Tribune on Wednesday that they are still so sad that there’s not even any update from local authorities from what’s going on or if they are still pursuing the case or not.

Department of Public Safety Commissioner Robert Guerrero, in an interview, said DPS is closely working in coordination with federal law enforcement agencies in the Luhk sisters’ case.
